Kyle Edmund practised with Rafa Nadal at Wimbledon |
East Yorkshire teenage tennis player Kyle Edmund from Tickton near Hull has reached the last 16 of the Yucatan World Cup, in Merida, Mexico. The 15-year-old, who is ranked eighth in the UK, beat the fifth seed Mathias Bourgue of France 6-3, 6-2. The result is likely to boost Edmunds world ranking as Bourges is placed 110 places above him. He will now face 12th seed Robin Kern of German for a place in the quarter-final of the competition. Edmund was joined in the last 16 by fellow Britons Oli Golding and George Morgan. Golding, from Richmond, beat Benjamin Ugarte of Chile 7-5, 7-5 and the tournament's fourth seed now faces fifteenth seed Luis Patino from Mexico in the next round. Bolton-based Morgan defeated the Chilean Gonzalo Lama 6-1, 6-3 and will now play the Serbian tenth seed Nikola Milojevic
