Nathan Brown to stay as Huddersfield Giants head coach

Huddersfield Giants coach Nathan Brown
Brown announced in May that he would return to Australia this summer

Nathan Brown has decided against quitting as Huddersfield Giants head coach and will remain at the Galpharm until the end of the 2011 season.

The 36-year-old announced in May that he would return to his native Australia at the end of the current campaign due to family reasons.

But Brown has now opted to stay in West Yorkshire for one more year.

"I am delighted to announce that I will be remaining with the Giants for the 2011 season," said Brown.

He added: "In May I tendered my resignation due to personal family matters, which took priority in my life.

"Thankfully I am now in a position to have moved positively forward since those family matters which will allow me to remain with the Giants next year.

"It is such an exciting time at the club with the development of so many players that I look forward to continuing to work with throughout this year and next."

Brown took charge of the Giants at the beginning of 2009 and was named Super League coach of the year in his first campaign at the helm.

The former St George Illawarra boss guided the Giants to the Challenge Cup final and a third-placed finish in Super League.

In April of this year he was linked with a move to the NRL with Cronulla Sharks but denied his intended move back home was in any way rugby-related.

It is unclear exactly what circumstances in Brown's personal life have changed to allow him to stay on as coach.

The Giants, who are sixth in the Super League, beat the Crusaders 30-12 on Sunday - only their second win since 6 June.

"I think it's superb news for us all that Nathan can continue to take this club forward," said Giants managing director Richard Thewlis.

"Obviously rumours had been circulating that circumstances had changed and Nathan was considering remaining and we are absolutely delighted here that he will remain for another season."
