Brown led Huddersfield to last season's Challenge Cup final |
Angry Huddersfield coach Nathan Brown claims his players may have to start taking the law into their own hands. Brown was incensed when Wigan's Sean O'Loughlin escaped with only a rebuke for a late challenge on Luke Robinson in Wigan's 28-10 Murrayfield win. "The officials can do better and protect the small players," said Brown. "I'll quite clearly instruct my players if the officials are going to allow people to hit our key players late and in the head, you do it back." Australian Brown's fiery post-match comments came at the end of an unsettled week in which speculation has arisen over his future, following the surprise news that star player Brett Hodgson is to leave the club to move to Warrington. And his remarks could yet land him in trouble with the Rugby Football League. "Rugby league is a rough game," said Brown. "And they played a little rougher and a little better than us today. | If one of my players took out one of their players late, I would expect one of their big blokes to do something about it if the officials aren't Giants coach Nathan Brown |
"But I've got some blokes who are quite capable of handling themselves - Keith Mason and Dave Fa'ologo handle themselves very well - and they'll be under my instructions, if the officials ain't going to look after the small people, to make sure they look after them - and don't hold back. "If the officials don't do it, next time we play, Keith or Dave are going to fix it up for us. That is the way it is. "If one of my players took out one of their players late, I would expect one of their big blokes to do something about it if the officials aren't. "We started the second half soft and had a 15-minute period when they were far superior to us. "Wigan did things a little better but the first half showed if we want to work hard for the 80 minutes I'm sure we can do well against them." As for the speculation about his future, Brown repeated: "I'm very happy at Huddersfield. "I've have enjoyed my time there and my time in England. "As long as I am at Huddersfield I will keep working hard and do my best to help the club improve. "I enjoy England, the people and the rugby. It's been great."
