Warriors see off Broncos
Captain Andy Farrell scored one of Wigan's tries
Farrell was a key figure in Wigan's comeback
Wigan Warriors 19-12 London Broncos

Wigan were made to sweat as they saw off the Broncos to extend their unbeaten run to 11 games.

The Warriors twice had to come from behind in a gruelling encounter as the Broncos threatened an upset with an early try in each half.

The Londoners, who have never won in Wigan, stunned the home crowd at the JJB Stadium when French international centre Sylvain Houles struck after just six minutes.

London will shake a few sides before the end of the season if they play like that
Wigan coach Stuart Raper

Wigan soon raced back into contention when Terry O'Connor powered past two defenders and stretched his 6ft 2in frame over the line to chalk up his third try of the season.

Australian stand-off Julian O'Neill's penalty on 24 minutes nosed Wigan ahead after Craig Smith was judged to have been held down in the tackle.

The Broncos provided an early shock after the restart as Dennis Moran evaded tackles on the line before squeezing through the faintest of gaps to grab his 19th try of the season.

I really respect the effort from my guys - they played some smart football
London coach Tony Rea

Paul Sykes added the goal to give the visitors a 12-8 lead before Wigan moved up a gear.

The Londoners' defence was looking impregnable until the 57th minute when Wigan skipper Andrew Farrell threw himself at two defenders and managed to touch down from close range.

Substitute Stuart Jones had only been on the park a matter of minutes before rounding off a move involving Adrian Lam and Farrell to give Wigan more breathing space.

With eight minutes remaining Lam dropped a goal from 16 metres out to kill off a plucky show from Tony Rae's London side.

"It was a tough game - London came here to play and they were in our faces defensively," said Wigan coach Stuart Raper.

"It was a pretty tight 10 metres and it made it difficult to get any fluency in our attack.

"But London defended well and we didn't take advantage of the possession we had.

"I was a little disappointed with our performance but London will shake a few sides before the end of the season if they play like that."

London coach Rea added: "I really respect the effort from my guys - they played some smart football.

"Wigan were good defensively but we missed a couple of opportunities. All in all I was happy with the performance. We are in good shape."
