Dave Woods bemoans 'pathetic' York City Knights display

York City Knights

York City Knights coach Dave Woods bemoaned his side's "pathetic" display in their 34-12 Championship defeat by Barrow at Craven Park.

Jack Stearman and Mark Barlow scored tries for the Knights, but their performance was riddled with errors.

Woods told BBC Radio York: "We had blokes that I don't think got on the bus let alone got off it, so it was very disappointing, very poor.

"It's not good enough for any sort of rugby league, let alone at this level."

Several players who were rested for the Challenge Cup tie with Hull KR returned, and Woods was far from happy with the contribution of most of them.

"You rest blokes because they've been doing a good job and you think that you're looking after them," Woods added.

"Then they repay you with that rubbish and it's just not good enough.

"Tom Bush is the only bloke who can stand there and stick his hand up and say he had a dig, and, to be fair, Jack Lee (one of the rested players) did a pretty decent job.

"We work in training on things that we need to do in games but we're just not doing them out on the field."

Woods did not use the windy, rainy conditions as an excuse.

"Barrow were playing in the same conditions," he added.

The Knights' next game is at Batley's Mount Pleasant ground on Thursday night and Woods is aware it is not an easy place to pick up points.

"It's a tough place to go up the hill," he said. "There'll be a few blokes who played who definitely won't be playing (at Batley), that's for sure."
