York City Knights coach Dave Woods said the performance in Sunday's win over Toulouse was "a long time coming".
The Knights' 16-10 success in France - their first win of the season - saw them climb from the foot of the Championship table.
Woods told BBC Radio York: "The guts that the boys showed was tremendous.
"In the first half of the game we had four or five sets of six that they defended and everything they did today I was proud of."
The win came just three days after a 50-12 defeat by Hunslet.
Woods added: "When you consider we played on Friday and they didn't, it's great.
"We were so disappointed on Friday because although Hunslet are a decent side they're not 50 points better than us.
"We were just very disappointed with our efforts, but we've come in today and they've turned up. Hopefully today will kick us on.
"We wanted some points over this weekend. We've taken them today. Now we need to back up next Sunday against Dewsbury and put some points on the board again."
