Thackeray scored in Widnes' win over York this season |
York City Knights have made offers for Anthony Thackeray and James Ford from Widnes Vikings. Both players have been told they will not be taken into next year's Super League squad and are no longer part of the club's plans. Knights coach Dave Woods told BBC Radio York he is keen to get them to the club for the rest of the season. "We're trying to get something sorted so ideally it would be for after the Easter Weekend." Half-back Thackeray, 25 has also played for Hull FC and Castleford and had a short spell on loan with York in 2007. | (Thackeray) said that he'd like to come but again it's down to finances |
Ford, 28 has had time with Featherstone, Sheffield and Castleford before moving to Widnes in 2008. Woods said: "We had Thackeray's manager on the phone the other day just asking if we'd have any interest in him. We said that we would. "He's contacted a couple of the players to see what it's like and said that he'd like to come but again it's down to finances. He's on a pretty good wage at Widnes and there's no way we'd be able to match that. "In fairness I think there are about five clubs that are in for him as well so it's just going to come down to who he thinks he's best suited to I suppose. "James Ford was another one as well. Again he's got a lot of interest as well so we'll just wait and see what happens."
