Featherstone Rovers maintained their six-point lead at the top of the Championship with a 30-22 victory over fellow play-off hopefuls Widnes. High-flying Rovers went into the break 10-0 to the good after tries from Matty Dale and Zak Hardaker. Liam Finn, John Grayshon and Kyle Briggs then crossed to secure victory. But Widnes did have the tonic of second-half tries from Chris Gerrard, Matthew Gardner, David Allen and on-loan Wigan winger Shaun Ainscough. Leigh remain second thanks to a 36-18 win at home to bottom club Keighley, Matty Blythe scoring two tries. Stuart Donlan, Dave Alstead, David Armitstead, Martyn Ridyard and John Duffy also crossed in the Centurions' seven-try triumph. Gavin Duffy (2), James Hutchinson and Ryan Benjafield were the Keighley try scorers. In Sunday's other game, third-placed Halifax went down to a shock 37-30 defeat at struggling Dewsbury. Rob Spicer's brace and a late converted try from Bryn Powell, coming on top of efforts from Luke Blake, Anthony England and Luke Stenchion, saw the Rams to a vital victory. Robert Worrincy scored two of Fax's five tries, Stephen Bannister, Shad Royston and Dave Larder grabbing the others. Reigning champions Barrow tightened their hold on fourth place, closing to within three points of Halifax, when they won 36-26 at nearest rivals Sheffield on Thursday night. An Eagles win could have lifted them to within a point of Barrow who rallied after being tied 14-14 at the break. Martin Ostler, Liam Harrison, Andrew Ballard, Chris Young, Andreas Bauer, Ned Catic and Nathan Mossop ran in Barrow's seven tries. Eagles scorers were Misi Taulapapa (2), Mitchell Stringer and Trevor Exton. Fourth-placed Barrow were without experienced loose forward Rob Roberts, who was given a five-match suspension by the Rugby Football League disciplinary committee on Tuesday. In Saturday evening's game, Toulouse staged a second-half fightback to claim a 34-12 win overWhitehaven. The French side trailed 8-4 at the break but ran out winners by six tries to two, Rory Bromley crossing twice. Haven's two tries came from Craig Calvert and Danny Backer. Championship One Hunslet backs Wayne McHugh and Waine Pryce helped themselves to four tries apiece as the leaders slaughtered London Skolars 60-16. Nathan Larvin, Paul March, David March and Danny Grimshaw also crossed in the Hawks' 12-try romp, Ade Adebisi claiming a hat-trick of tries for outclassed Skolars. Hunslet now lead by three points from second-placed Oldham, who themselves are three clear of Blackpool, who won 28-6 at Swinton. First-half tries from John Clough, Mark McCully and Martin Ainscough sent the visitors in 18-0 at the break, before Thomas Woodcock and Dean Thompson confirmed victory after the break. Swinton got on the board with a Sam Reay goal, converted by Gavin Dodd. In Sunday's other game, Darren Holt kicked 14 points for Workington as they beat South Wales Scorpions 38-24. Town came out on top 6-4 in the try count as Kris Coward, Jamie Marshall, Scott Kaighan, Brett Carter, Neil Frazer and Patrick Coupar all crossed the whitewash. Loz Wildbore, who added four goals, Andrew Gay, Steve Parry and Aled Jones all ran in tries for the Scorpions. In Saturday evening's game, Dave Woods made a successful return to Gateshead with York. In his first game in charge, York ran out resounding 60-12 winners against the bottom club. Lee Waterman scored three tries and kicked eight goals, the Knights never looking back from the moment that they opened the scoring in the fourth minute with the first of Tom Lineham's two tries. Jack Lee also crossed twice as the visitors ran in 11 tries to their opponents' two, both of which came from Matt Garside. In Saturday's other game, Rob Lunt grabbed a brace of tries as Doncaster won 30-20 at home to Rochdale. Rochdale put up a brave effort, only being outscored five tries to four, having trailed only 12-10 at the break. But the hosts led from start to finish, loose forward Rob Lunt scoring two tries, while stand-off Simon Brown kicked five goals.
