Featherstone maintained their 100% start to the season as they moved back to the top of the Championship table with the narrowest of wins at Widnes.

Rovers needed a late drop goal from hooker Liam Finn to claim Friday night's 9-8 victory.

The visitors led 8-0 at the break thanks to tries from Jesse Joe Parker and Andy Kain before Widnes responded.

Second-half tries from Matthew Gardner and Paddy Flynn pulled them level, only for Finn's boot to secure victory.

That took Rovers back to the top after being temporarily displaced on Thursday night by Leigh.

Carlos Mendes Varela's two tries helped to inspire Toulouse to Saturday night's 20-12 win over Batley.

The Portuguese-born wing touched down twice in three minutes just before the interval, Nathan Wynn twice converting to earn a 14-4 half-time lead.

Batley rallied after the break, closing the gap to just two points midway through the period following unconverted tries from Mark Toohey and Kris Lythe.

But Mathieu Griffi's converted try nine minutes from the end sealed victory for Toulouse.

Meanwhile, high-flying Leigh maintained their own unbeaten record in the Championship with a gutsy 30-14 win at Dewsbury on Thursday night.

The Centurions, who have now won seven and drawn one of their opening eight games, climbed briefly to the top of the table after five converted scores proved too much for the winless Rams.

Prop Jake Emmitt ran in two of them, supported by efforts from half-back Martyn Ridyard and forwards Tommy Goulden and David Armitstead, Mick Nanyn adding the extras each time.

Dominic Brambani went over for Dewsbury before the break, while Andrew Bostock also crossed for the home side, Paul Walker adding three goals with the boot.

Barrow moved up to third thanks to Monday's seven-try 40-10 win against Keighley at Cougar Park.
