York City Knights have decided to call off their pre-season friendly with Hunslet Hawks because of the weather. The game has been moved from Sunday to 1930 GMT on Thursday, 21 January at the Huntington Stadium. Knights general manager Ian Wilson told BBC Radio York: "We have been looking at the weather forecast all week, every day virtually. "There's at least four or five inches of snow on the pitch and underneath that it's completely rock solid." He added: "The pitch was frozen before the snow even came. There's not really any chance of the game going ahead. | It's unfortunate but there's not a great deal we can do about the weather |
"So we decided to call it off early to give people maximum time to make other plans. "We can make other arrangements for the players. Hopefully we can have a training session instead indoors somewhere because we're conscious we need to get somewhere to keep training as much as possible. "We've also been able to arrange a new date with Hunslet so we felt we'd make an early decision for these reasons. "We're not the only club. I don't think that many have played so far due to the conditions. "Most clubs are in the same position as us. It's unfortunate but there's not a great deal we can do about the weather."
