York City Knights have signed 21-year-old hooker or half-back Luke Helliwell from Castleford.

Coach James Ratcliffe told BBC Radio York: "He's a very good acquisition and comes highly recommended.

"It's an area we feel we're probably going to need to improve on next year," he added.

"There's no guarantee that we're going to be keeping any of the current hookers or half-backs due to things not within our power."

Ratcliffe said he is currently looking at further additions to the squad for 2010.

"We've got a couple we're looking at now with a little bit more experience than those we've been buying in," he said. "But I'm more than happy to play younger players as long as they're good enough.

"They certainly come with the right work ethic and they're willing to work had to try to get a first-team spot."
