York City Knights have added prop forward Nathan Freer to their squad for the 2010 season. The 20-year-old has signed from Hull FC and he has also had time at Doncaster in the Championship. Knights coach James Ratcliffe told BBC Radio York: "Nathan was someone we looked at last year as well. "He's had an excellent season at Doncaster before he went back to Hull. Although he's young he's got experience of playing first-team rugby." Ratcliffe said Freer's style of rugby reminds him of the Knights' former second-row Ross Divorty who is now with Featherstone Rovers. "He's certainly pretty much in the Ross Divorty mould in how he plays his rugby. He's got a bit of a footballing game in him." | Once we know which division we'll be able to highlight those and make an offer to those players |
Freer's signing is another step towards next season for the Knights and Ratcliffe said he is pleased with how things are coming together although it is still not clear which division they will be in next season. The Knights travel to Keighley on 20 September in the first game in the Championship One play-offs. He said: "I think it's about 17 or 18 involved so it's quite a healthy squad already. We just need some more players to go in to that. "Probably a little bit more experience and once we know which division we'll be able to highlight those and make an offer to those players. "There's still some of the players who are here that will more than likely still be here next year but we've left offers with them. "It's certainly not something we're pushing them into with the play offs where we are now. It'll all fall into place in it's own good time."
