York City overtook Kettering in the Blue Square Premier table and moved into the play-off places thanks to Richard Brodie's brace.
City started well and Brodie and Michael Gash forced Lee Harper into saves in the opening 40 seconds.
And they deservedly led after the break when Brodie fired home Djoumin Sangare's ball from close range.
The striker then sealed the points 12 minutes later with a header from another Sangare ball.
