Widnes Vikings have suspended two unnamed players for seven days pending an investigation into a town-centre incident on Saturday night.

Club officials viewed CCTV footage before making the decision.

"We will not tolerate behaviour of this kind," said Vikings sporting director Terry O'Connor.

"I would like to apologise to the owners, staff and customers of [the bar] as well as to the police who were called to deal with the incident."

O'Connor continued: "The players have to realise that the way they conduct themselves off the pitch is as important as the way they conduct themselves on the pitch, if not more so.

"Despite reports elsewhere, no players were arrested."
