York City Knights have finally clinched the signing of former Great Britain amateur international Wayne McHugh. General manager Ian Wilson said the delay was over whether the League Two club was able to make the winger, 28, an offer within the club's budget. "He came in on Friday, liked what the coaching staff had to say, and we agreed a deal there and then," he said. "If he can add another 15 or 20 tries, which he's done before in his career, he'll improve our attack immensely." McHugh has proved himself a reliable try scorer in spells at Rochdale, Dewsbury and Featherstone Rovers. "I'm sure he'll add a lot of quality to our team," said Wilson. "We were quite happy with what we had prior to signing Wayne, but he's a proven National League player. "He won promotion with Featherstone from National League Two the season before last, so I'm sure he'll provide us with a cutting edge in the three-quarters." McHugh joins the club just in time for the first pre-season training session on 18 November.
