Guernsey swimmer shows potential

Swimming

Guernsey swimmer Kristina Neves has been hailed as a star of the future after setting 11 new island records in the pool last weekend.

The 13-year-old broke the records at the Rothschild Island Swimming Championships at Beau Sejour.

Jo Norman, president of the Guernsey Swimming Club believes Neves is now firmly on the path towards success.

"It's about stepping up the ladder to the Commonwealths and perhaps she might make an Olympics," she said.

"This is the beginning of the rung and in January we have the Channel Island Championships which is the next rung up - then we go onto Hampshire, then the nationals."

Norman praised Neves for her mature attitude in the pool and said the young star already commands respect amongst the island's swimmers.

"They all look up to her and they're all quite friendly training with her," she added.
