Guernsey's footballers secured a place in the third round of the National League System Cup on Saturday, beating the holders in the process.
The side, made up from players in the island's top league, beat the Southern Amateur League 3-2 in a thrilling game thanks to a Dave Rihoy hat-trick.
Island coach Tony Vance said: "We had to step up to the plate because we knew they were going to be strong.
"We created a lot of chances... I think everyone can see we deserve the win."
He said: "It would have been nice to put maybe a bit more of a cushion in but we certainly deserved the game, that's for sure.
"Hopefully we'll get a good draw for the next round."
Bob Leeds, manager of the Southern Amateur League side, said: "I'm extremely disappointed we lost, but quite frankly the better team won and we weren't at the races for long periods of the game.
"Guernsey wanted it more, had prepared better and deserved to win."
The island side beat Northampton Town League 2-0 in the first round of the competition.
