Simpson is currently ranked 43rd in the world

Guernsey's Chris Simpson is through to the second round of the KIG Squash Open in Los Angeles.

He beat Frenchman Yann Perrin in straight games in what he described as a straightforward match.

He said: "It was nip and tuck in the first two until about 6/6 when I pulled away, but I always felt in front and like I had him doing more work."

In the second round Simpson is set to face the United States number one Julian Illingworth.

Simpson said: "We've never played on tour, but he's a good friend and we have trained together quite a bit.

"He plays an attacking game so I look forward to the match, I think it will be a close one."
