Simpson's first round match lasted 95 minutes

Chris Simpson has reached the quarter-finals of the Chennai Open in India after a tough first round tussle with one of the home favourites.

Simpson took a tense first game 14-12 against Siddarth Suchde but lost 11-3 in the second.

The Guernseyman edged ahead with a 12-10 win in the third, only for Suchde to level it taking the fourth 11-8.

The match was the longest of the first round, at 95 minutes, as Simpson took the deciding game 11-7.

He now faces another Indian opponent, fourth seed Saurav Ghosal, in the last eight.
