Bridgman said that he used the competition to gain experience

Guernsey's teenage sailor Andrew Bridgman has finished 157th out of 232 competitors at the European Laser 4.7 Championships in Hourtin, France.

Bridgman, 16, the International Sailing Federation World Topper champion, said he had hoped for a higher finish.

"I was disappointed with my results but I have been sailing 4.7 Lasers for less than a year," he said.

"My coaches said that I have to put it down as a learning experience at this stage of my career."
