Sarich has spent three seasons at Sheffield Steelers |
Sheffield Steelers defenceman Rod Sarich is close to agreeing a new deal, reports BBC Radio Sheffield. The Canadian was hoping the club could get him on a university course as part of his new contract but he has admitted that looks unlikely. The 27-year-old said: "I think I'd planned to stay at least for this year's schooling. "But I've decided mind that Sheffield is the place to be, school or not, and we'll see what happens after that." A number of other Elite League clubs have been interested in Sarich after he helped the Steelers win the play-offs last season. He said: "I have been approached. I've had a couple of phone calls from other coaches in the league and a few other places abroad." But Steelers spokesman Dave Simms added: "I don't think there is a cat in hell's chance that Rod will sign anywhere other than Sheffield."
