Lehman given deadline on future

Jody Lehman is considering his future at Sheffield Steelers

Sheffield Steelers have given Canadian goaltender Jody Lehman 24 hours to accept their latest contract offer.

The 32-year-old former Coventry Blaze player helped the Steelers to play-off glory but is now out of contract and is a free agent.

Head coach Dave Matsos told BBC Radio Sheffield he wants Lehman to return: "I want Jody back but if it's not going to happen we need know right away.

"I have looked at other options, but I would like Lehman back."

Meanwhile the Steelers have signed forward Jeff Legue for a further year.

The Canadian turned down options to play in Europe to return to Sheffield for a second season.

Legue scored 22 goals last term but missed much of the early part of the season with a shoulder injury.

Matsos believes the return of Legue is important: "I am thrilled to have him back, I don't think he hit his peak, he did play well for us but with his injuries he had a tough go.

"I believe that Jeff has another level and we should be happy to have him, I know that teams in the top league in Germany were talking about signing him.

"But he wanted to be here and I am not going to fight him on that, I am delighted to have him back."
