Koka Fast (yellow hoops) just pips King Kenny to the post |
Koka Fast stormed home to just pip King Kenny to win the Jersey Derby for the second time in three years. Going into the final straight, rank outsider National Monument, who led from the off, was still six lengths clear of the field. But jockey Matty Batchelor, looking for his first Derby win, guided his horse home by half a length from King Kenny, with National Monument third. Koka Fast is owned by Joan Lowery and trained by Alison Malzard. Lowery was just as excited with this win, as she was back in 2008. "What a boy, he really does do the business, doesn't he," she told BBC Jersey. "And so exciting when he gets going. He's poetry in motion." The next meeting at Les Landes is on Sunday, 15 August.
