Fakenham Racecourse will hope to have a full grandstand on Monday |
Fakenham Racecourse will have an inspection on Friday ahead of their scheduled meeting on Monday. Temperatures in Norfolk have regularly dropped below zero degrees celsius, keeping the ground from thawing out. Clerk of the course David Hunter told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I think the inspection alerts people that we are not out of the danger zone yet." "The forecast has said that it might be getting colder again over the weekend, so that may play havoc as well." Fakenham are yet to host any races this year after the New Year's Day meeting was called off that morning because of poor conditions. "The biggest blow is not being able to put racing on when there was so many people who wanted to come," Hunter added. "The whole reason for our existence is to put racing on, we make money at some meetings and a loss at others, but the whole point is to get people to come and enjoy racing. "We're linked into various financial arrangements with the sale of our media rights and if we have a certain amount of abandonments, those companies have a claw-back arrangement. Any more this year will hit out finances very hard."
