Heavy snow across Norfolk has prevented two big horse race meetings being held.

Racing at Great Yarmouth has been cancelled, as has racing at Fakenham, where more than 5,000 people were expected to attend.

Clerk of the course David Hunter said it was the first time in Fakenham's history the Easter Monday event had been called off.

"We can't guarantee the racecourse will be clear of snow and safe for racing by the time of the first race," he said.

The weather has had an effect on a number of Norfolk attractions over the Easter weekend.

A show at Cromer Pier was cancelled on Friday night after managers decided the risk to the audience from high seas was too dangerous.

And strong winds blew the roof off offices at Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach, leading owners to close the site for the first time on an Easter Saturday.
