Workington Comets sign King's Lynn rider Chris Schramm

Workington Comets have completed their 2010 roster with the addition of King's Lynn rider Chris Schramm.

Schramm goes in the opposition direction of last season's Comets captain Kevin Doolan, who joined the Norfolk club late last year.

"Chris really shone during his time at Derwent Park last season," owner Keith Denham told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"We've had to go for a less averaging rider but I think the guy will do us a good job and come in at number three."

Schramm spent time at Workington last season and impressed team boss Denham with his scoring.

Comets lost Doolan and Czech rider Adrian Rymel, and with the arrival of the experienced Andre Compton and Schramm, their team is complete.

And Denham admitted the problem has been a lack of available riders for the number one position at this late stage.

"Toward the end of the season Kevin Doolan and Adrian Rymel intimated that they were coming back and our team planning was superb," he said.

"All of a sudden after the annual get-together both dropped it on us that neither were coming back and it left it late for us to try to find replacements.

"There was only one vacancy in the Premier League who could take a rider short of 10 points apart from us.

"We spoke to Daniel Nermark but he couldn't guarantee us the full season. A lot of riders are attracted to the money in the Swedish and Polish leagues."
