Norfolk was in impressive form in Florida |
Paralympic quad singles tennis champion Peter Norfolk enjoyed double success at the Florida Open tournament. Norfolk claimed his fifth singles title before he and fellow Briton Andrew Lapthorne won the quad doubles. British women's singles number one Lucy Shuker made up for the disappointment of losing in the singles semi-final to take the women's doubles title. Shuker and her partner Florence Gravellier beat Britain's Jordanne Whiley and Canada's Yuka Chokyu. Norfolk, the world number one, beat American second seed David Wagner to retain his singles title. The pair had met in the last six finals in Boca Raton but Norfolk's 6-2 7-6 triumph was arguably his most comfortable over the American and maintains his advantage at the top of the world rankings. Norfolk and 18-year-old Lapthorne then sealed victory in the quad doubles thanks to a thrilling final set tie-break. The British duo held their nerve to beat Sweden's Johan Andersson and Bas van Erp of the Netherlands 7-6 4-6 7-6. Shuker claimed her second doubles title of the season after her and Gravellier secured a 6-2 6-2 success over teenager Whiley and Chockyu. The doubles win was consolation for the Taunton player who was beaten in straight sets in the singles semi-finals by Gravellier, the world number four. Lapthorne, Shuker and Whiley will now join a host of other top British players at the Pensacola Open, which begins on Wednesday.
