Norfolk's win is the 35th quad singles title of his career
Britain's Peter Norfolk defeated David Wagner 7-6 6-1 to capture his third Australian Open quad singles crown and climb to the top of the world rankings. Norfolk recovered from a break down in the opening set to force a tie-break, which he took 7-5 to edge ahead. The 48-year-old staved off a break point at the start of the second set and quickly opened up a 5-1 lead. Norfolk broke the American again to wrap up the set in Melbourne and replace Wagner as the world number one. The Briton was competing in his first tournament since clinching his second successive Paralympics quad gold at Beijing last September. Norfolk took time out from the sport after his wife Linda gave birth to their first son in November.
