England's Ted Hankey beat Dutchman Ron Meulemkamp 4-1 to win his first Isle of Man International Darts Festival title at the Villa Marina on Sunday.

The two-time world champion emerged from a 527-strong entry to claim the £5,000 top prize and valuable British Darts Organisation ranking points.

Hankey faced his toughest test in the semi-final when he edged a 3-2 win over Stockport's Darryl Fitton.

Meulemkamp beat fellow Dutchman Wesley Harms in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, England's Deta Hedman made history by claiming her fifth title in the women's competition.

Hedman knocked out Welsh skipper Julie Gore in the semi-final to end her four year winning run at the Manx event, before beating Lisa Ashton 4-1 in the final.

Ashton from Lancashire had knocked out former world champion Anastasia Dobromyslova of Russia in her semi-final.

Welsh duo Jamie Lewis and Julie Gore joined forces to win the mixed pairs, beating Martin Atkins and Louise Carroll 2-1.

The powerful English duo of Trina Gulliver and Lisa Ashton beat Russia's Dobromyslova and Irina Armstrong 2-0 to claim the women's doubles, while Hankey teamed up with last year's men's champion Dave Prins to beat Martin Adams and Ross Montgomery 2-0 in the men's pairs final.

There was also a moment to remember for the Isle of Man's Colin Tyrer who became the first Manx player to play on the main stage in the competition's 26-year history on his way to victory in the Okells Early Bird competition.
