Merrien beat Karen Murphy 2-1 in the tie-break to decide the ladies' title |
Guernsey's new double World Indoor Bowls champion Alison Merrien says winning both the women's singles and mixed pairs titles was "amazing". Both Merrien's singles final and mixed pairs final, alongside partner Simon Skelton, were decided on tie-breaks. The 36-year-old said: "It's finally sinking in, it's a wonderful feeling. "The more you play, the better you find it and it was great to play with Simon. It was lovely to come away with one win, but two is absolutely amazing." Having been runner-up in the last two singles finals at Potters in Norfolk she added: "I think I was a bit more relaxed coming into the competition and obviously that helps. "It's a tough crowd when you come up here, they're all very good bowlers and to come out on top is absolutely fantastic. "It's the world championship, you just can't get any better than this. "There are some great players in the world and to be up against them is just great anyway but to actually come out and beat them is even better. "Any sport, when you're on top, you just can't get any better than that."
