Devon bowls player Ian Bond has lost to Robert Weale in the quarter-finals of the Welsh International Open at the Swansea Indoor Bowls Club. The 36-year-old went down 2-1 to Hereford-based Weale, after comfortably winning the first set by 10-4. Weale fought back in the second set, taking it 8-3, before securing a semi-final spot by winning the tie break. Bond told BBC Sport: "It was a good game and I'm quite pleased with the way I played so it's all good." Weale will now play Nottingham's Simon Skelton in the semi-finals on Friday morning. Skelton beat Mervyn King 9-7 6-9 2-0 to book his place in the last four. The Welsh Open is the final ranking event of this season.
