James has made Zimnickas his seventh summer signing |
Worcester Wolves head coach Paul James has completed the signing of 6ft 8in power forward Aleksas Zimnickas, who also can play at centre. "Aleksas is a hard working big man who will add toughness and smartness to our squad," said James. "He can score in many ways, which should help him fit in with our style of play while his rebounding is solid." The Canadian/Lithuanian, 27, arrives at Worcester with three seasons of experience of European basketball. After college he joined the UCC Demons in Ireland for the 2007/08 season. The following season he played for Fribourg in the Swiss LNB before heading to Iceland for the 2009-2010 season when he turned out for FSU Selfoss where he recorded impressive figures of 19 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per outing. He made 55% of his field goal attempts, 43% from beyond the arc and 69% from the free-throw line. Zimnickas will join his new team-mates in training next week as they prepare for the first competitive home game of the new season. The Wolves will host Cheshire Jets for a BBL Trophy pool game at the University of Worcester on Saturday, 18 September with tip-off at 1900 BST. Before then the Wolves have two friendly matches in which they will take on a USA Select squad. These games will be played at the University of Worcester on Saturday, 11 September and Wednesday, 15 September with both tipping off at 1900 BST.
