Hill wants to rid Worcester of their persistent self-doubts |
Worcester Warriors head coach Richard Hill believes his side are still suffering the effects of relegation from the Premiership last season. Despite topping the Championship after back-to-back wins Hill thinks his squad suffer a residual lack of self-belief. "It's going to take time", he told BBC Hereford and Worcester. "The side's been used to losing over the last five years. It's been hard for them going back into the dressing room more often than not having lost." Hill added: "It gets players down. I think they appear confident but we've just got to keep picking up wins and that confidence will be genuine." | We need to realise we have the capacity to be considerably better than these other teams |
The Warriors followed up an impressive 48-3 win over Birmingham and Solihull on the opening day of the season with a tightly contested 26-19 victory away to Plymouth Albion. Hill says his team has not performed to their full potential yet and hopes the performances will improve as their confidence returns. "The air's good and if you look at the squad and watch them in training they looked confident but as with most sportsmen and most people in life you've got to have firm foundations before you have true confidence running straight through you." The Worcester Warriors look to make it a hat-trick of wins with Rotherham the visitors to Sixways at the weekend. "The good thing about this group is they are not complacent. In fact they are a little bit nervous about each game, " added Hill. "I think we need to get a little bit more confidence within ourselves and realise that whilst teams will raise their game against us we have got the capacity to be considerably better than these other teams because this is to all intents and purposes a Premiership squad."
