Sullivan captained Great Britain at the EuroBasket tournament |
Newcastle Eagles have re-signed Great Britain captain Andrew Sullivan after his spell with Cypriot side Apollon. Sullivan, 30, left Newcastle for Russian outfit Samara midway through the 2008-09 season and coach Fab Flournoy knows the qualities be brings. "He sets high standards and knows what is required to win trophies," Flournoy said of Sullivan's arrival. "He is the final piece of our jigsaw, can deliver at both ends of the floor and now bring even more experience." The switch marks Sullivan's third spell with the Eagles, with his first period at the club proving most successful with a clean sweep of trophies and a separate BBL play-off victory. And Flournoy expects the gifted Londoner to slot into the current squad with little fuss. | I am sure everyone from his team-mates to the fans will be really pleased that he is pulling on that Eagles vest yet again |
"While we all know he has talent, third time around we can expect him to have even more smarts than before and to be another leader in this team," he said. "We have to make sure that we maintain the chemistry that we have but that shouldn't be a problem because Sullivan works as hard as anybody and is a winner. "I am sure everyone from his team-mates to the fans will be really pleased that he is pulling on that Eagles vest yet again." Sullivan was the first player to captain Great Britain in the prestigious EuroBasket competition in Poland during 2009 and has experience in Spanish, Russian, US college and Belgian basketball.
