Raiders announce fourth signing

Basketball

Plymouth Raiders' squad for the 2009/10 season is starting to take shape with forward Matt Hilleary the latest addition to their squad.

Hilleary has both Irish and American passports and signed from the Raiders from Irish side St Paul's.

The 28-year-old is 6ft 8in tall and averaged 24 points per game for the Irish Superleague club in 2007/08.

Hilleary said: "I'm very excited about heading to the Raiders, and I can't wait to get settled and start playing."

"I feel blessed to have the opportunity to continue to play basketball in Europe and I'm really looking forward to the beginning of the season," he added.

Raiders head coach Gary Stronach said his latest signing would provide options right across the court.

Stronach said: "Hilleary will help us at the defensive end having lead the Superleague in Ireland in blocked shots in his second year.

"Offensively he is the type of player who will quietly go about his business but end up with 20 points."

Hilleary is the Raiders' fourth signing over the close season, with Allister Gall, Eric Flato and Terry Horton the other recruits.
