The Isle of Man senior badminton team began its Inter-County Championship campaign with a double win over Lancashire at the NSC this weekend. Despite missing several established players the island won both days competition to claim five of the available six points on offer. Isle of Man coach Peter Short said: "This was a big challenge and we came through it with flying colours." The team will play Nottingham in their next double header, next month. Saturday's match was all square at 7-7 before Kevin Harding and Laura Beggs won the final mixed doubles match in three thrilling sets. The young Manx team grew in confidence and won Sunday's second clash, 10-5 to claim a bonus point. Isle of Man Manager Geoff Claugue added: "It was really good to blood some of the up and coming juniors, who are hopeful of representing the Island at the Commonwealth Youth Games in September."
