Commonwealth Games 2010: Isle of Man lose to Seychelles

The Isle of Man's badminton team were narrowly beaten 3-2 by the Seychelles at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Cristen Callow and Josh Green both won their singles matches in straight sets but could not prevent defeat.

Team manager Geoff Clague said: "We are all gutted not to get the win - on paper it was our best chance."

The Manx side have now lost all three of their matches after losing 5-0 to current world champions Malaysia and 4-1 to Nigeria on Monday.

The Island's final round-robin game is against Australia.

Callow beat Allisen Camille 21-7, 21-12 and Green triumphed 21-10, 21-15 against Steve Malcouzane.

Green is in a rich vein of form and has now won two of his three singles matches, after Monday's victory against Nigerian Ifraimu Jinkam.

Clague added: "They were an unorthodox side, and while a number of close games didn't go our way, there's no excuses.

"Realistically it was a winnable match, but on the day they played the better badminton.

"On a more positive note, I'm delighted for Cristen - she played a great set. And Josh is playing with a maturity we haven't seen before - he's definitely shown the qualities required to establish himself as a big game player."
