Manx cyclist Tim Kennaugh has pulled out of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

The 18-year-old from Onchan has followed the decision of his older brother Peter who has also withdrawn from the competition.

The cyclists made the decision because of concerns about the standard of accommodation at the Games village.

IOM cycling team manager Gary Hines said: "It weakens our team a lot but ultimately we have to get on with it. There's been too much bad press."

He added: "I honour their decision but I think they are making a mistake."

In 2009 Tim became one of the youngest riders to ever win the Manx National Road Race Championships making him one of the Island's biggest medal hopes.

I still think we have a real chance of bringing home some medals

IOM Cycling team manager Gary Hines

Hines continued: "We could have done with the Kennaugh brothers as we had one of the strongest cycling teams in the Commonwealth.

"The preparation has been a rollercoaster ride and now I just want to make sure we look after everyone who is coming to the best of our ability.

"I still think we have a real chance of bringing home some medals."

Team Isle of Man has confirmed that, barring injury, Mark Cavendish still intends to compete in the competition.
