Tom Gallichan is hoping to head to the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi
Tom Gallichan was the star at the 28th AIB Tigers Swimming Meet at Les Quennevais over the weekend. The 17-year-old, who is looking to qualify for the 2010 Commonwealth Games, claimed four national qualifying times and won the senior boys trophy. Gallichan set times in the 200m freestyle and backstroke, the 400m freestyle and the individual medley. Ebony Jacklin also impressed, claiming national qualifying times in the 50m freestyle and the 100m butterfly. Tigers coach Nathan Jegou told BBC Jersey he was impressed with the swims. | The three of them [Gallichan, Jacklin and Richardson] along with Kerrie Smith in the backstroke are all in with a good shot of joining Ian Black in Delhi Tigers coach Nathan Jegou |
"Tom swam great all weekend, especially as we are in the middle of heavy training and didn't taper for this meet." Iona Richardson, 18, was also in blistering form, winning the 100 metre freestyle in a time of 57.9 seconds. Richardson, however, must qualify for the nationals in a long course pool, and the Tigers coach said he was confident she would make it to the Commonwealth Games in 2010. Jegou said: "The three of them [Gallichan, Jacklin and Richardson] along with Kerrie Smith in the backstroke are all in with a good shot of joining Ian Black in Delhi." Black, who won seven gold medals at the Aland Island Games earlier this year, is currently training in Perth Australia.
