Mariana Agathangelou hopes to make it to the London Olympics in 2012

Jersey badminton player Mariana Agathangelou won the mixed doubles title at Sunday's 2009 Spanish Open in Madrid.

Along with partner Robin Middleton, they defeated the Indian pairing of Vishnu and Balan 21-16, 21-15.

It was Agathangelou's first tournament back since a three-month break from the game to concentrate on university.

Agathangelou did not do so well in the women's doubles when, with partner Heather Olver, she lost in the semis.

Agathangelou, who is aiming to make the GB team for the 2012 Games, has moved to the national training centre in Milton Keynes.
