Derry fail to tip the balance
Derry's Sean Marty Lockhart
Lockhart saw his clearance rebound into the net
Derry 1-13 2-10 Tipperary

Derry will be disappointed that they failed to continue their Allianz NFL winning form after they shared the spoils with Tipperary at Celtic Park.

A draw was probably a fair result, but manager Mickey Moran will rue the missed chances against a side that was allowed to pick up its first point of the campaign.

A Pat Bradley goal after nine minutes put the Oak Leaf men into an early lead but Tipperary replied well with points from Pat Hally and the excellent Peter Lambert.

Tipp went into a 2-06 to 1-04 half-time lead after hitting the net twice.

The first was rattled in by Lambert and then a mix-up in the Derry defence saw the ball rebound into the net from a Sean Martin Lockart clearance.

Bradley, who finished with 1-05, and Ronan Rocks piled on the points with the aid of a stiff breeze to pull Derry back into the game.

Derry looked to have sealed the game with a late point to take the lead, but Tony Doyle pointed just before the whistle to give the visitors a well-earned point.

Down 1-10 1-11 Sligo

There was heartbreak for Peter O'Rourke's Down side when two injury-time points from Mark Breheny gave a 14-man Sligo victory at Newry.

Paul Durkin went for an early bath after two bookable offences, but Peter Forde's side never gave up.

Down had deservedly led 1-05 to 1-04 at the break, with Sean Davey and Benny Coulter swsapping goals.

In a thrilling second half the lead changed hands on five occasions.

Down apopeared to be in control and at the end of normal time had led by a point.

But those two late points by Breheny gave Sligo the points.
