Derry end Ennis losing run
Mickey Moran's team were playing their first NFL match of the season
Mickey Moran's team trailed early in the second half
Clare 1-10 1-14 Derry

Derry produced a battling display to end a losing run of visits to Ennis.

Mickey Moran's side made the better start and four Ronan Rocks scores and a couple of Paddy Bradley points helped them to a 0-6 to 0-2 lead after 20 minutes.

Clare then hit three of the next four points to trail by just two at the interval.

The home team's revival continued in the third quarter and John Kennedy's side led 1-7 to 0-8 midway through the second half.

However, Derry then re-established control with substitute Jim Kelly scoring their crucial goal after a superb long pass from Enda Muldoon.

Kelly had been introduced for Geoffrey McGonigle.

The introduction of Sean Martin Lockhart for Ryan Lynch also steadied Derry in the closing stages.

Derry manager Mickey Moran was content with his team's performance.

"Not having a game last weekend wasn't ideal and we hadn't had that many challenge games either," said the Derry boss.

"Clare are a decent side so it was good to come away with a good result from here".

Monaghan 1-12 0-5 Carlow

Also in Division 1B, Monaghan didn't have to produce much to beat a desperately poor Carlow outfit.

Kieran Tavey and Damien Freeman were among the Monaghan scorers as the Farney county led 0-7 to 0-4 at half-time.

Monaghan improved in the second period but were still only able to add five points.

Damien Freeman struck Monaghan's goal in injury-time.

Only an injury-time point, prevented Carlow from being held scoreless in the second period.

Limerick 2-13 1-11 Antrim

Few fancied Antrim's chances against an improving Limerick outfit and so it proved.

Antrim held their own early on and the game was level at 1-2 to 0-5.

However, Limerick dominated the second quarter and went in 1-8 to 0-6 ahead at the interval.

Darren O'Hare, son of the manager PJ O'Hare, hit an Antrim goal in the second half but Limerick held on to win by five points.
