Phillips signed for Stoke Potters from the Isle of Wight Islanders
Glen Phillips will be missing for Stoke Potters when they travel to Somerset on Friday evening.
The 26-year-old, who has struggled for form since joining the Potters, is out with a long-standing shoulder problem.
"He picked up an injury in New Zealand in the winter and he aggravated that at Newport," team manager John Woolridge told BBC Radio Stoke.
"If he leaves it for a week or so, he'll be fully fit, and hopefully we'll see a different Glen Phillips."
Woolridge added: "He's never blamed the injury (for his form) and I appreciate him in some ways for that. He didn't want it to sound like an excuse."
Stoke bounced back from a terrible Easter weekend to win both of their meetings against Birmingham and Newport, keeping alive their chances of qualifying for the final stages of the Premier Trophy.
"At last the boys started to gel," said Woolridge. "We've had a fair bit of machine trouble but they got their machinery right last weekend and it paid off for us.
"We need to get something out of trips to Somerset, otherwise we're not going to get anything away from home. We shall be trying very hard to win."
