Injury blow for King's Lynn rider

Rob Lyon
Stars boss Rob Lyon was named as Great Britain manager last month

King's Lynn Stars manager Rob Lyon says he is confident about the start to the new speedway season despite having one of his riders in hospital.

Australian rider Kozza Smith spent his 21st birthday being treated in hospital after a crash riding for Elite League team Ipswich Witches last week.

Rob Lyon told the club's website, "I feel so sorry for him; it isn't a nice way to spend your 21st birthday."

"We will have to run rider replacement for now. Hopefully we can cope."

Five new riders, including Argentinian international Emiliano Sanchez, have joined the Norfolk team's roster for the 2009 season and will ride alongside familiar faces like Tomas Topinka.

The Stars begin the season by hosting Rye House in the Premier Trophy on Wednesday, 1 April.
