Lyon led the Stars to a Premier League treble three years ago
King's Lynn Stars team manager Rob Lyon has been appointed Great Britain manager ahead of the 2009 World Cup.
Lyon, 43, who led the Stars to a treble in 2006, will combine his duties with the Premier League side while planning Great Britain's World Cup challenge.
He told BBC Radio Norfolk: "I'm delighted, it's a great honour to team-manage your country.
"I'm really pleased, it's a big commitment, but both jobs will get my 100% commitment."
Lyon missed out on the chance of winning promotion from the Premier League last season, losing to Edinburgh in the end-of-season play-off.
And the new manager has admitted that British speedway fans should not expect success overnight.
"We are looking to the future in this role, I think we need to be looking at the young riders in the team to come through and hopefully bring us some success in the coming years," he said.
"It's not a short-term fix, it's a medium to long-term objective, there's a lot of hard work to do but I'm sure we can hopefully bring some success back to the British team in the next few years," he said.
