Canaries' Cort is out for season

Carl Cort
Cort almost retired in late 2007 because of persistent knee injuries

Norwich City striker Carl Cort has been ruled out for the rest of the season after having an operation on his foot.

The 31-year-old, who has been out since 7 March, travelled to London to have a bursa removed from his foot.

Canaries manager Bryan Gunn said: "Obviously we're disappointed not to have him for the rest of the campaign.

"He put his body on the line for the club, and we praise him for that. But bringing in loanee Alan Lee from Crystal Palace will help fill the gap."

The former England Under-21 international was signed by then-Canaries manager Glenn Roeder on a free transfer in December.

The injury-hit striker, who has scored once in 13 appearances for the Canaries, is out of contract in the summer.
