Hamill was a firm fan favourite with Cradley, Coventry and Wolverhampton |
Speedway great Billy Hamill is returning to the West Midlands in March for a farewell meeting. The 38-year-old Californian is taking time off his new full-time job back in the United States to attend the event in Wolverhampton on 22 March. "It's been an amazing journey, right from the moment I first raced for Cradley in 1990," Hamill said. "Now it's time to say goodbye, and I just want to see so many people who I haven't seen for years." The 1996 world champion has hung up his racing gear after a series of injuries, returning home to California to start a whole new career. | I have nothing but great memories from Cradley and Coventry - I loved my two seasons at Wolverhampton Former world champion Billy Hamill |
"It's busy for me because I get home from work and I'm spending hours on the phone talking to various people to put this whole thing together," Hamill noted. "I have nothing but great memories from my time at Cradley and Coventry, and I loved my two seasons at Wolverhampton. "It was so cool that I was able to ride for such a great club. I had ridden against them throughout my career but when I raced for them I was proud and I always gave my best." The line-up for March's big farewell meeting at Monmore Green will be announced over the next few weeks as speedway pays tribute to one of the sport's all-time greats.
