Peter Karlsson will return to Wolverhampton in 2009 as captain of the Monmore Green side. Karlsson, 38, took a year out of British racing to spend more time in his native Sweden. He said: "We'll have a mixture of youth and experience at Wolverhampton and I'm looking forward to it. We're determined to get back where we belong." Wolverhampton avoided relegation in a play-off at the end of the season after finishing bottom of the Elite League. Karlsson first rode for Wolves in 1990 and helped them to win the Elite League title in 1996 and 2002. Club owner Chris Van Straaten said: "I've said before we missed the experienced figurehead last season and PK fits the bill perfectly. "We will now open talks with Freddie Lindgren who expressed a desire to return as part of a more successful team and hopefully this has gone a long way towards ensuring that will happen. "PK will be captain for next season and that should take some of the pressure off Freddie, subject to Freddie agreeing a deal to be back with us." Karlsson joins Adam Skornicki and Tai Woffinden in the Wolves side for 2009.
