Redding's best finish in 2010 was second in Australia |
Scott Redding finished eighth in the Moto2 riders championship after a fifth place in the final race of 2010. The 17-year-old Marc VDS rider from Quedgeley qualified fourth for the race in Valencia, his sixth start from the front row of the grid in the season. "The racing out there was really tight, then I started to have problems with the quickshifter," Redding said. "I lost my rhythm a bit after missing a couple of gears, apart from that it was a good race to end a great year." The race was also Redding's 50th grand prix and he takes Moto GP world champion Jorge Lorenzo's record as the youngest rider to reach that mark. It is a record which will need a change in the rules to be broken as riders now need to be 16 to compete in all classes of the Moto Grand Prix, while Redding made his debut in 125cc aged 15 in 2008. | With Scott Redding and Mika Kallio we have a real opportunity to challenge for the world title in 2011 |
Redding, who is staying with Marc VDS for the next two years, was quick to thank his team and stayed in Valencia to test the 2011 bike with his new team-mate Mika Kallio. The team has also confirmed it is extending its agreement with Suter to continue supplying bikes for 2011, a deal which gives team manager Michael Bartholemy optimism for the future. "With Scott Redding and Mika Kallio we have a real opportunity to challenge for the world title in 2011," he said. "This new development partnership with Suter Racing guarantees that we will start the new season with the most competitive package possible."
