Jonathan Rea raced to a maiden victory in the Czech Republic |
Jonathan Rea clinched his first World Supersport victory in Sunday's round at Brno in the Czech Republic. The HannSpree Ten Kate Honda rider from Ballyclare pipped team-mate Andrew Pitt of Australia by 0.02 seconds to take top place on the podium. Australia's Josh Brookes was third while compatriot Broc Parkes was fourth on a Yamaha. Rea was sixth in the last round while his previous best finish of the year was a second place at Assen. "I am really happy. To come to a new circuit and win is a really good result," said Rea after his success. "I wasn't expecting to win here and was putting all my expectations on Brands Hatch. "We knew from yesterday morning's free practice that we had the pace to run up front and fight for a win. "The championship is still in reach now. I just need to start building some momentum with Brands Hatch and Donington coming up, two tracks I know well and am really looking forward to," added the Ballyclare rider.
